Call for Apparel Designs

UM Business student Seth Samuels is developing an apparel line featuring unique, creative takes on the university through innovative design cues.  The goal is to create a line of apparel that accurately and creatively represents the university on a more fashion-forward canvas, complements of the student body.

We are looking for students who can accomplish the following - Designs that evoke the memories, images, and emotions that resonate here at the university, from marching with the band to simply chanting “The Victors.” Being that we all have a unique perspective on what the school looks like to us, the possibilities aren’t too limited.

Just as a brief background, our inspiration has come from Louis Elbel, the composer of “The Victors” in 1898 when Michigan defeated the Chicago Maroons.
Please submit a resume and 3 to 5 samples of your designs to Seth Samuels .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)  Please limit the size of the files to less than 9MB A link to your URL is also acceptable.

The deadline for these initial submissions (initial because we would like to get off the ground with a few-rollout designs, but we’ll be welcome to more in the future), is January 3rd, 2010.

Specific compensation has yet to be determined as product numbers and sales projections have yet to be determined. However, being in startup mode, developing a team, as well as a % commission can be part this compensation.

Cartoonist/Illustrator Needed

Mike Winstanley is looking for a cartoonist/illustrator to collaborate with on a business book he is submitting for publication. When published, the book will be approximately 250 in pages in length and will have one (1) drawing per page.

Requirements:

* The illustrations will be used to illustrate different one-line phrases about good business practices.
* The main character is tentatively named “Jesse” and represents an “average businessperson”. Jesse is unisex and must be iconic enough to be easily recognizable to the readers. Most of the panels will have Jesse in a variety of simple situations. Jesse must be able to convey emotion. Other characters and simple objects will occasionally be used in the panels depending on the message being communicated by the phrase.
* The drawing style needed is simple black-and-white figures. Stick figures or figures with very simple features and bodies are the idea here.

Please submit one drawing of “Jesse” that captures the essence of the following phrase: “Being a good boss means seeing the diamonds in the rough”. It is meant to convey the idea that everybody has strengths - even the “worst” employees.

The winning submission will be determined by not only the drawing but by the artist’s interpretation of the phrase. Think about communicating a powerful message. But at the same time, think simple.
This drawing will be included with the book proposal being submitted to publishers. When accepted for publication, the 250 drawings will need to be completed by the deadline set by the publisher (TBD).

Compensation to be negotiated on a percentage of the profits from book sales and merchandising with the artist.

Please send submissions to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and include “Jesse” in the subject line.
