A&D students in good academic standing are eligible to apply up to three internship credits toward graduation requirements. In many cases, students network for their own internship opportunities; however, the Career Development Coordinator in the Smucker•Wagstaff Academic Programs Center compiles requests for interns from organizations and posts those opportunities through bulletin boards, email messages, and the web. Interested in Exhibitions and Exhibition Design?
The A&D Exhibitions and Performance Committee is looking for two interns: a rising sophomore and a rising junior. A strong candidate should be reliable and hard-working, inventive in coming up with new strategies and ways to involve undergraduates in exhibitions, and interested in learning about the practical considerations of setting up work for display.
The undergraduate interns will have the following roles:
• Serve on the Exhibitions & Performance Committee.
Interns will attend and participate in all Exhibition and Performance Committee meetings. This School of Art & Design committee (made up of 2 faculty, 2 graduate students, and 2 staff) oversees the policies, scheduling and agenda of all the A&D exhibition venues, including Work/Ann Arbor, Work/Detroit, Slusser Gallery, Slusser Lounge, the Warren Robbins Gallery, and A&D Intersections. Interns will represent the interests of undergraduate students by participating in all committee activities.
• Serve as a co-leader of the student organization ADEO (Art and Design Exhibitions Organization) and as a liaison with the Ex/Perf committee and the ADEO. This includes attending and running ADEO meetings, and managing funding.
• Check undergraduates out of their shows at Warren Robbins Gallery. This includes reviewing the gallery after shows, learning how to lay out, hang, light, and create text for an exhibition and, when necessary, provide assistance.
Interested applicants, please email a cover letter describing your qualifications to Rebekah Modrak (Faculty and Chair, Exhibitions & Performances Committee, A&D): .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) . Interviews will be conducted the first two weeks of the fall semester.
Internship credit for this experience may be arranged with John Luther .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Please see A&D’s Internship Policies for more info on credit for internships: http://art-design.umich.edu/career/internship_policies
