The narrator of this animation is Novellla Jones, a Detroit resident who has lived off Woodward Avenue for over thirty years. As she narrates about her aspirations for Detroit, the broken down and decaying buildings present start to rebuild themselves into new structures. This animation serves as a commentary on how particular residents of Detroit, like Novella Jones, are influencing their city economically, politically, and socially by living out their aspirations; the physical buildings serve as a metaphor for change. Living out her dreams, Novella gives away donated clothing and food, even though she has very little in terms of possessions. Her devotion to the residents of Detroit, along with her specific dream for a shelter building to house homeless residents in, shows her genuine care for her city. This project is not about creating a utopia Detroit, but is meant to showcase real life examples of people who are stirivng for positive change. In having Novella share her dream, this project will hopefully encourage listeners to take action in creating positive change in any place.
