Imprisoned in the Land of the Free: with my artwork I am bringing the issues behind the ongoing cycle of crime and mass incarceration to the forefront. Through printmaking I appropriate the style of propaganda war posters to critique the prison system. Printmaking allows me to bring my point of view on this critical issue out of the studio and into the streets.

The narrator of this animation is Novellla Jones, a Detroit resident who has lived off Woodward Avenue for over thirty years. As she narrates about her aspirations for Detroit, the broken down and decaying buildings present start to rebuild themselves into new structures. This animation serves as a commentary on how particular residents of Detroit, like Novella Jones, are influencing their city economically, politically, and socially by living out their aspirations; the physical buildings serve as a metaphor for change. Living out her dreams, Novella gives away donated clothing and food, even though she has very little in terms of possessions. Her devotion to the residents of Detroit, along with her specific dream for a shelter building to house homeless residents in, shows her genuine care for her city. This project is not about creating a utopia Detroit, but is meant to showcase real life examples of people who are stirivng for positive change. In having Novella share her dream, this project will hopefully encourage listeners to take action in creating positive change in any place.

This work deals with the collective, or group, as an entity for thriving outside normative culture. Using an appropriated non-Western aesthetic to segue out of traditional civilization, this work also emphasizes the artist position in romanticizing and empathizing with the 'outsider' construction. To expand on the thematic idea of the collective within the work, the final installation for my piece is photography and film, along with the curation of four other artists work, including prints, collages, and film, into the installation space.

My Integrative Project is a re-imagining of the 21st century's modern woman's "empty" uterus. In this project, modern women are defined as students in a higher educational setting, in their early twenties who are or have been sexually active. Through a multi-media project, which re-structures and re-images the female "vessel" or uterus within women's bodies. I use imagery, research and collective stories to analyze the female form.

I created two videos pertaining to the soul: one to investigate, one to inspire. The first, Soul Searching, was a four minute documentary on what I believed the soul was and the second video was a four minute trailer for Splitters, a potential film project that I hope to create with an actual crew and professional cast. This project is an exploration of the idea of a soul, and using the medium of video narrative I intend to convey the concepts of duality, humanism, fate versus free will, and the notion of choice.
