Gabriella Boros will have work in three locations around the Chicago area in October.
New Visions, Old Stories, a solo show of works on paper will be on view at the University of Illinois at Chicago Student Center West, Student Center Lounge at 828 South Wolcott. Half of the work is thoughts about my Israeli birthplace and half are post-Holocaust reflections of my Slovak and Hungarian heritage. The opening will be Thursday, October 11 from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm. The show will hang from October 1 through November 2, 2007.
Also opening October 11 (from 6:30 – 8:00 pm), is the show entitled Devils and Beasts at the Art Center of Highland Park. This group show, curated by Bert Menco, will be the perfect set-up for Halloween! My paintings will be two acrylic on wood panels from the Urpapa series. The Art Center is located at 1957 Sheridan Road in Highland Park.
Lastly, I will be participating in Chicago Artist Month this year. The show entitled Shadows of Memories is a result of a collaboration with photographer, Iwona Biedermann. One painting, created for this exhibit, is the result of researching the nature and history of Iwona’s Polish mother. The second piece is autobiographical and reflects the stylistic leaps I took in creating the first piece. Iwona, using a pinhole camera and slow-exposure techniques creates pieces which evoke aspects of her mother and portraits of me. This will be shown at Dreambox Foto Studio, 2415 West North Avenue. Hours are Saturdays in October from 1-5.
