Biography

In 1999, Anne Mondro received her BFA in crafts from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her MFA from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, in 2002.

Mondro first came to the University of Michigan in 2003 as a Roman J. Witt Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Art & Design. Since 2005, she has served as an assistant professor teaching a variety of studio art courses.

Her creative work has been shown in several national exhibitions, including Body/Medicine at Kendall College of Art and Design, The Edges of Grace: Provocative, Uncommon Craft at the Fuller Craft Museum, and Life Insight: The Human Experience at the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft. Solo exhibitions include Sarcinae de Corpus at the International Museum of Surgical Science and Aortic Emporium at Illinois Central College.

In 2007, her work was displayed in an exhibition titled Rumination at the University of Northern Colorado School of Art and Design and at International Exposition of Sculptural Objects & Functional Art held in New York City. She is currently working on new work to be displayed in upcoming solo exhibitions at the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art and Bemidji State University in 2008.

In addition to her studio practice, Mondro has provided numerous artist lectures and workshops. These have included presentations at the Fashion Imaging Department at Ming Dao University in Taiwan, the Society for the Arts in Healthcare 16th Annual Conference, and Kendall College of Art & Design. She has presented workshops at Bowling Green State University and Grand Valley State University on jewelry and metal techniques.

She has also been active in developing community art projects. In 2005, she was the Artist in Residence for the University of Michigan Health System Gifts of Art Program to create the Dragon of Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams. For this residency, she worked on creating a permanent piece of art that involves participation by the hospital community. The Ann Arbor Commission recognized Mondro for this project on Art in Public Places, which presented her with the Golden Paintbrush Award for outstanding community art.

Within the community, Mondro has served for the past two years as a grant reviewer for the Arts of Michigan and is an active member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths.
