WHY CHOOSE A&D?
A&D is a good choice for you if:
- You are interested in breaking boundaries.
The School of Art & Design has one of the most interdisciplinary programs in the country. There is only one major at A&D: art/design.
- You want your art practice to be about more than one medium and more than one idea.
Students at A&D learn about and continue to work with a broad range of media. And our focus on ideas is as expansive as our focus on materials and methods.
- You think it’s important to be a part of a larger world.
A&D students have access to resources available only at a top tier university — you’ll work with leaders in creative work, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, natural resources, music, theatre, dance, law, business, medicine, education, to name a few.

Recent presenters have included graphic designer Paula Scher and Dutch kinetic sculptor Theo Jansen.
Exhibition Opportunities: Every month the University has new exhibitions opening at one or more of the dozen gallery spaces across campus. A&D's exhibition venues - including two at the school, one in downtown Ann Arbor, and one in Detroit - offer continuing opportunities for you to show your work.
Community: Your creative community includes friends and colleagues drawn from all 50 states and over 100 other countries, social organizations of all kinds, and football at the Big House.
Ann Arbor: You'll live in a safe, small, yet cosmopolitan city - Ann Arbor. There's an active music scene, restaurants of all types, and a world-renowned film festival. There is also canoeing on the river, biking, and walks in the arboretum.
